Evansville-based Atlas World Group, Inc. today was named 2015 Norman P. Wagner Business of the Year by the Southwest Indiana Chamber at its Annual Meeting & Dinner. Atlas World Group, Inc., the parent company of Atlas Van Lines, was founded in 1948 and today is one of the largest private companies in Indiana and one of the nation’s leading moving companies.
Brad Niemeier, founder and owner of Azzip Pizza, was named recipient of the 2015 Entrepreneur of the Year award. Niemeier, a graduate of Purdue University, opened the first Azzip Pizza location in February 2014 on Evansville’s west side and has since added new restaurants in Newburgh, Ind. and Champaign, Ill.
The University of Southern Indiana received the 2015 Nonprofit of the Year award. Founded in 1965, today the University of Southern Indiana has total enrollment of nearly 10,000 students from 89 Indiana counties, 36 other states, and 51 other nations. About 74 percent of the school’s 36,000-person alumni remain in Indiana after graduation and 80 percent of those graduates remain in Southwest Indiana. The University of Southern Indiana is committed to meeting the needs of employers in the greater Evansville area and through the state of Indiana.
Jack Pate, publisher and president of the Evansville Courier Company, was named recipient of the 2015 Volunteer of the Year award. Pate, a recognized servant leader, is celebrated for his dedication to the regional community. For more than a decade, Pate has served as a member of the board of directors for a dozen or more nonprofit organizations, including the Southwest Indiana Chamber and the University of Southern Indiana Foundation.
First Security Bank was named recipient of the 2015 Small Business of the Year award. The bank entered the Evansville market in 2007 and now has 11 locations in two states. In the past two years, First Security has doubled its workforce and opened two new offices.
G. Michael Schopmeyer was named 2015 Richard A. Schlottman Business Person of the Year. Co-managing partner of Evansville-based Kahn, Dees, Donovan & Kahn, LLP, Schopmeyer, with more than 30-years experience as an attorney, has brought his legal expertise and business acumen to bear for many of the region’s most prominent companies. A long-time member of the board of directors for the Southwest Indiana Chamber, Schopmeyer is known for his tireless dedication to initiatives designed to advance the region.
