Event Cancellations & Facility Closings


Closed Public access will not be allowed for a week at the administration portions of the Civic Center, Old National Events Plaza, Discovery Lodge, Old County Courthouse, Swonder Ice Rink, Mesker Park Zoo, and Wesselman Woods. Click here for FAQ’s.

Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana is closed through Monday, March 23. All programs scheduled during that time are also canceled.

Better Business Bureau is closed effective Wednesday, March 25th, our BBB office will be closed and employees will be temporarily telecommuting from home. BBB staff will be available by phone and email, during normal business hours (M-Th: 8a-5p, F 8a-1p), and can assist with most BBB services, questions or requests. Please contact us by phone at 812-473-0202 or by email at contact@evansville.bbb.org. We will be conducting meetings by phone or video wherever possible, and have temporary suspended BBB events. Bob’s Gym and CrossFit is closed until 5 a.m. April 6. All membership accounts will be automatically frozen and members will not be billed.  Billing will resume once facilities on April 6.

Boys & Girls Club of Evansville will suspend daily programming March 16-27. Updates will be made through its Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Evansville Museum of Arts, History & Science is closed through Tuesday, March 31 out of “an abundance of caution.” Also canceled are its participation in the multi-venue “Destination Discovery” spring break camp. All special events and programs, including school and group tours, are postponed until the end of March. Additionally, the April 9 Friends of the Evansville Museum Pre-Derby Style Show and Luncheon is postponed.

Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library  will remain closed until further notice. All due dates will once again be extended and we encourage library users to keep their borrowed materials while we are closed. EVPL is fines free so library users will not have overdue fines. All EVPL programs, outreach services, Passport Services, and meeting room reservations have been suspended. EVPL staff are working to bring library experiences to our community in a different capacity. Additional details will be released on our website and social media. EVPL services can still be accessed through our digital portals. More digital resources are being added to our collection. There are thousands of eBooks, eAudiobooks, movies, TV shows, music, and more, available 24/7.

Junior Achievement of Southwestern Indiana

As a result, the following changes are effective Monday, March 16 through Wednesday, April 15, at which time we will re-evaluate:

  • All in-person and volunteer-driven Junior Achievement in-school programming will be postponed.
  • Events (i.e. student events, fundraisers, meetings, workshops, etc.) will be conducted virtually or rescheduled.
  • Finally, we are implementing a virtual work environment for all JA SWIN team members. Please continue to engage with us via technology!

Posey County Businesses
After careful consideration and the new developments with the COVID-19, the Posey County Commissioners in conjunction with The Posey County Health Department has determined for the best interest of the residents of Posey County to close some nonessential businesses that provide very close contact. This includes hair salons, barbershops, nail salons, bowling alley, tanning salons, and fitness centers. This will take effect on March 20, 2020 at close of business until further notice. This decision was not taken lightly but for the health and well being of our county. Banks, grocery stores, pharmacies, and gas stations will continue business as usual. The University of Evansville has put into place policies following the Governor of Indiana’s order for Stay at Home announced on March 23, that is effective at 11:59 p.m. on March 24, 2020 and will continue through at least 11:59 p.m. on April 6, 2020. The University of Evansville instituted a policy limiting staff on campus as identified in the Governor’s order as specifically defined in Executive Order 20-08. Personnel designated to be on campus will be notified by their supervisors. In compliance with this order, the University closed all access to campus buildings to visitors. This policy follows the announcement to move to online instruction on March 18.

The University of Evansville is rescheduling its Spring Commencement ceremony to take place during Homecoming weekend on the morning of September 19, 2020, at the Ford Center.

Campus return date extended to April 7
Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb has issued a stay at home order for the state until April 7. In following the state guidelines, the USI campus, including University-owned and -operated locations outside of campus, such as Innovation Pointe, New Harmony properties and the Stone Family Center for Health Sciences, will remain open only to authorized personnel until Tuesday, April 7. The April 7 date is subject to change as the University continues to evaluate the situation and follow state guidelines. All in-person Lifelong Learning courses are canceled through the end of the semester, May 6

Vanderburgh Humane Society shelter facility will be closed to all public walk-in traffic through March 30. Adoption applications will be accepted online. For potential adopts attempting to visit animals can contact VHS by email at adoptions@vhslifesaver.org. VHS will not accept new spay/neuter clinic appointments at this time.

Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve, Nature Center, Nature PlayScape and recycling center is closed to the public until Monday, March 30. All programs and activities will be postponed during this time, as well, including volunteer activities.

Disney On Ice presents Worlds of Enchantment scheduled on May 14-17, 2020 at the Ford Center in Evansville has been cancelled. Tickets purchased on Ticketmaster.com will automatically be refunded to the original form of payment.

Henderson Tri-Fest has been cancelled. The Henderson Breakfast Lions Club will cancel the 2020 Tri-Fest, scheduled for April 17 through 19, in downtown Henderson. This also includes the 5K. Refunds will be distributed to groups who have reserved space for the festival to the address on the vendor application.

Old National Events Plaza
Old National Events Plaza will be closed to the public.  During that time, in addition to event cancellations and postponements, Old National Events Plaza staff will be unable to receive customers at our box office, and many personnel will be working remotely.  Patrons looking to inquire about or purchase tickets to a future event, or those seeking a refund to a cancelled event, should call 812-437-8200 or e-mail info@oldnationaleventsplaza.com.

Past April 6, 2020, per the recommendations of the CDC and Governor of the State of Indiana, non-essential gatherings will be limited to no more than 50 people over the through May 10, 2020.  This includes conferences, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, weddings and other types of assemblies.

Broadway Musicals:
BEAUTIFUL – THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL, originally scheduled for April 16, 2020, will be rescheduled. Previously purchased tickets will be valid for the rescheduled date, which we hope to announce in the coming weeks.
THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG will not take place on May 5, 2020. Tickets purchased via Ticketmaster will be automatically refunded to the original method of payment.  All other tickets will be refunded at the original point of purchase. 

The WWE (NYSE: WWE) NXT live event scheduled for Saturday, March 28th at the Old National Events Plaza in Evansville, IN has been rescheduled to Saturday, December 19, 2020.
All tickets purchased for the Evansville, IN NXT live event will be honored on December 19, 2020. Fans that cannot attend the rescheduled date may obtain refunds at their original point of purchase.

Right to Life Banquet – Postponed until Sept. 10
As the mission of Right to Life of Southwest Indiana (RTLSWIN) seeks to protect life, the RTLSWIN Board of Directors has voted to postpone the Annual Banquet until Thursday September 10, 2020. All reservations, corporate sponsors, ticket holders and ad book placements will transfer to the new date; and, every effort will be made to keep the proposed programming in place.
