Larry Williams, General Manager of McKim’s IGA explains what makes them a unique business in the region and what services they offer that keep them HOMETOWN PROUD.
Who started the business and why?
The business was purchased from Sharon Roberts in Sept, 1991 due to the death of her husband Howard. The store has been operated as an IGA by one owner or the other since 1968.
What are the services you provide?
Fresh meat, Produce, Seafood, Hot & Cold Deli, Grocery/Dairy/Frozen & HBA items. We also provide Western Union money orders, money transfers and bill collections, utility bill collections services and shipping to all 50 states via UPS with daily pick up.
What is your favorite thing about the business?
The people we deal with every day, both employees and customers. Everyone truly is like a big family. Our customers have watched my sons grow up in and learn the business and they are a huge part of our success.
What do most members of the community not know about the business?
We are one of the few single store independent grocery store operators left in the very competitive Evansville marketing area.
Anything else you would like to add?
I’ve been in Mt. Vernon since I took over management in October, 1991. More than half of my career has been spent in Mt. Vernon. I’ve been a homeowner here since 1999 and I’m happy that each of my three sons have also purchased a home in and currently live and work in Mt. Vernon. I can’t imagine living and working somewhere else. My family and I truly are HOMETOWN PROUD of Posey County and Mt. Vernon.
