Indiana Legislative Update – Breaking News: Tim O’Brien elected to State Representative seat

Local realtor, Tim O’Brien was just elected by a caucus of Republican Precinct Committeemen/women from across Indiana House of Representatives District 78 (Vanderburgh and Warrick Counties) to fill the remaining ~19 months of the term. The seat was left vacant earlier this month when Holli Sullivan was named Secretary of State by Governor Holcomb.

O’Brien is an Evansville realtor who ran unsuccessfully for the 1st Ward Evansville City Council seat in 2019. He was nominated in the caucus election tonight by Evansville first lady Carol McClintock.

The Evansville Courier and Press recently profiled the three candidates filed to run for the seat. The two other candidates in tonight’s caucus were Sean Selby and Alfonzo Vidal.

In the caucus process, a candidate has to get a majority of the votes to win. In the first round of voting, O’Brien and Selby each earned 14 votes with Vidal getting 11.  As is customary, vote totals on the final ballot are not shared, only the winner.
