Community comes together to support classrooms

Teacher Locker, a new school supply resource store plans to open it’s doors in August to support EVSC teachers. This resource is a collaborative initiative of local educational organizations who share a common mission to provide educators with classroom supplies at no cost. Teacher Locker will be located at AIS on Diamond Avenue next to Hangers.

Public Educational Foundation, Evansville Area Council PTA, EVSC Foundation, Evansville Teachers Association, EVSC Retired Teachers and the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC) are all a part of the collaboration.

The group researched teacher resource stores across the nation and surveyed a sample of local educators as they prepared to open Teacher Locker. Teachers indicated that having access to a local classroom resource store would be beneficial especially as the academic year progresses.

“What’s exciting about the project from PTA’s perspective is supporting teachers in a new way that truly helps students, said Area Council PTA President Leah Wayman. It’s a powerful way for the P and the T of the PTA to work together.”

Teacher Locker is currently fundraising to outfit the resource store. The EVSC Foundation has pledged to match the first $10,000 donated to the project. Teacher Locker will be open to elementary school teachers initially, with plans for future expansion. For more information to volunteer or donate, please visit teacherlocker.org or 812-435-0913
