4G LTE Expansion Will Give Customers Better Access to Mobile and Fixed Wireless Internets
AT&T* has improved its 4G LTE network in Posey County to help give customers faster, more reliable wireless service. One improvement is a new tower site along Damm Road in Wadesville, and another improvement involves adding capacity to the existing site along Hastings Lane in Mount Vernon.
Our investment will help customers get the most out of their mobile devices. With 4G LTE service, customers will experience better network connectivity while streaming videos, sharing on social media or texting family and friends.
The towers also include equipment to enable Fixed Wireless Internet service. This innovative service delivers an internet connection with download speeds of at least 10Mbps and upload speeds of at least 1Mbps. The connection comes from a wireless tower to a fixed antenna on a customer’s home or business. This is an efficient way to deliver high-quality, high-speed internet to customers living in underserved rural areas.
The towers used to provide this service are connected to AT&T’s network using AT&T fiber optics. AT&T has more than 1.3 million strand miles of fiber optics covering Indiana enables the company to offer a wide variety of products and services delivering the high-speed connectivity Hoosier businesses and residents need.
“High-speed broadband is a must when it comes to keeping or creating jobs, or enjoying your down time at home,” said State Sen. Jim Tomes. “This expansion of the communications networks in our community provides our citizens with the tools they need to be successful, and we are grateful for the investment by AT&T.”
“Local job creators rely on their ability to stay connected while on-the-go, and with AT&T’s latest investment in Posey County, we can open the door to greater opportunities in our business community. I look forward to finding additional opportunities to serve residents without broadband access,” said Jenna Alka, executive director, Posey County Economic Development Partnership.
We know how important it is for our customers to stay connected. This helps Indiana residents get the best possible experience over the AT&T network wherever they live, work and play.
“We’re committed to providing our customers fast, reliable, highly secure connectivity and the network expansion in Posey County is a result of that commitment,” said Bill Soards, president, AT&T Indiana. “We consistently work to provide better coverage and we’re investing in our wireless network to accomplish that.”
By building out our 4G LTE network, we are laying the foundation for 5G, the next advance in network technologies. We’re boosting network speeds and capacity, as we continue to expand the availability and capacity of our network using the latest technology.
This added coverage will also benefit public safety and first responders on FirstNet – public safety’s dedicated communications platform. FirstNet is being built with AT&T in a public-private partnership with the First Responder Network Authority. It’s designed to help first responders in Indiana and across the country connect to the critical information they need – when they need it – so they can keep themselves and the communities they serve safer.
