Southwest ISBDC Client Success Story: Committed Transportation

Lucrece and Scott Chenault started Committed Transportation in 2017 to help Medicaid patients get to their dialysis treatments. The couple’s services are now open to other Medicaid patients who need non-urgent transportation to medical appointments.

To serve more patients, the Chenaults need a new vehicle with a wheelchair lift and ramp. To purchase the new vehicle, the Chenaults sought a loan with the help of the Southwest ISBDC.

The Southwest ISBDC helped the Chenaults receive a loan by referring the couple to the City of Evansville’s Revolving Loan Fund. Lucrece Chenault explained that, “The support of the ISBDC is necessary, because their recommendation is required for the City’s Loan Administration Board.”

One of the Southwest ISBDC’s business advisors, Doug Claybourn, helped the Chenaults prepare a loan application. He led them through one of the Southwest ISBDC’s “Launching Your Own Business” Workshops. Claybourn reviewed the Chenaults’ business plan, made suggestions, and wrote a letter of recommendation to the Loan Administration Board. Claybourn also served as a resource for the Chenaults and answered other business-related questions.

On November 16, 2017, the City’s Loan Administration Board approved the Chenaults for a loan to buy a vehicle with a wheelchair lift and ramp. Once the couple receives the new vehicle, they will serve more clients.

Lucrece Chenault explained that the services she and her husband offer are unique, because the couple drives their patients themselves. She added, “My husband and I are the ones who drive our patients, so we really get to know them. When our patients call, they won’t get a machine. I’ll always be there to answer.”

Lucrece said that she and her husband “couldn’t have done it without the ISBDC.” She added that “it took the help of the entire community” to build her business.

Once equipped with a wheelchair accessible vehicle, Committed Transportation will accept new riders. Lucrece and Scott Chenault’s office phone number is 812-402-0377.
