2018 ATHENA Award®
Honoring Women Who Have Made
Outstanding Community Contributions
Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s chief operating officer since 2008, stated: “Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence and making sure that impact lasts in your absence.”
Realizing the importance of honoring women leaders in our area, the Southwest Indiana Chamber has proudly hosted the annual Athena Award Luncheon since the 1990s. The Athena Award helps to shine a light on the critical role women leaders play in our community. Over the years, hundreds of local women have been nominated and celebrated as award finalists, and 26 leaders have been recognized as Athena Award recipients.
There is no doubt that the finalists for the 2018 Athena Award have made outstanding contributions to our community, while demonstrating excellence, creativity and initiative in their business or profession. In addition, these leaders contribute time and energy to improve the quality of life for others and actively assist women in realizing their full leadership potential.
The recent successes we have had in this region were the result of significant strategic advocacy efforts and partnerships involving many in our community, including those in our outstanding group of finalists. In addition to leading in the areas of their business or profession, these women have volunteered their time, talents and treasures in hopes of improving the quality of life for residents of Southwest Indiana. Their hard work and efforts exemplify the spirit of the Athena Award and serve as inspiration for women throughout our region.
The 2018 Athena Award finalists have indeed made our community and those working and living here better and provided an impact that will, in fact, last for years to come. If you know or happen to see one of these outstanding leaders in the community, be sure to congratulate them for their recognition. More importantly, thank them. Thank them for their tireless commitment to their business, our community, and for being inspirational servant leaders for all in our region.
I hope you will join us for the Athena Award Luncheon slated for February 23 at 11:30 at the Old National Events Plaza. At the Chamber, we are honored to salute the 2018 Athena finalists because we know that “together we thrive!”
