Evansville, Ind. (August, 17 2017) – Each year, one individual in the Indiana Small Business Development Center’s (ISBDC’s) statewide network of ten regional offices is chosen to represent it as its State Star at the national SBDC conference. The 2017 Indiana Small Business Development Center State Star is Kim Howard, Regional Director of the Southwest Indiana Small Business Development Center, hosted by the Southwest Indiana Chamber in Evansville.
To be selected as an SBDC State Star, the person selected must meet the following criteria:
- Be an exemplary performer
- Make a significant contribution to their state, regional or territorial SBDC program
- Show a strong commitment to small business development and economic growth
“Kim is tremendously deserving of this award” says Troy Phelps, State Director for the ISBDC. “I am honored to have her leading our Southwest region and am thrilled she was selected as our 2017 winner”.
Kim and the entire Southwest ISBDC team have made significant contributions to the state of Indiana and Southwest Indiana region by serving nearly 200 clients this year. During the past 12 months, Southwest ISBDC clients started 30 new businesses, invested more than $15 million in their companies and created 173 jobs in Southwest Indiana. The Center is collaborating with the Latino Chamber Alliance to help minorities in this region capitalize on the benefits of ISBDC services as well as those offered by the Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC).
“Our Southwest ISBDC team, along with hosts Southwest Indiana Chamber and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, are all committed to creating a supportive and open culture that provides important resources for Indiana small business owners and entrepreneurs who help make our communities vibrant and strong,” stated Howard.
Kim will be formally recognized at the ASBDC National Conference in Nashville, Tennessee in September, along with other SBDC State Stars representing the finest talent across the nation.
