EVANSVILLE, IND., June 6, 2017 – AT&T* today announced that it has made a $10,000 contribution to Public Education Foundation of Evansville, Inc. (PEF), which will benefit high school students who are training to be Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs). This support is part of AT&T’s signature philanthropic initiative, AT&T Aspire, which drives innovation in education – through technology, social innovation and relationships – to ensure all students have the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.
Students participating in the CNA training course attend the Academy for Innovative Studies (AIS) First Avenue, which is the alternative school for the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corp. The AT&T Aspire funding will be dedicated specifically to the tuition of up to 8 high school students who succeeded in the CNA course interview process, met admission requirements and demonstrated a passion for entering the medical field.
“The intent of this course is to support students who are working to change their trajectory,” said PEF Executive Director Amy Walker. “With AT&T’s support, we’re helping them achieve a stable, healthy life and successful, rewarding career.”
“It is no small thing to take students who have struggled in school for various reasons, and empower them to pass a state board CNA test — but AIS and this course do just that,” said AIS First Avenue Principal Kristine Eicholz. “We’re so appreciative that AT&T recognizes the value of investing in kids and their long-term goals.”
The high school’s one-semester training course follows a specified set of license procedures for an Indiana CNA and thus far 100% of students completing the course with a B or better average have passed the state licensing exam.
“The CNA program has changed my life by giving it direction. I feel confident now with what I want to do after high school,” said CNA and 2017 AIS First Avenue Graduate Macayla Momon. “My favorite thing about the program is soaking up all the new information every day that I will soon get to apply to residents. I’m very thankful to be a part of such an amazing program.”
“It’s great to see AT&T boosting the efforts of a proven, life-changing program,” said State Rep. Ryan Hatfield. “It’s programs like these that promote the growth of both our young people and our local economy.”
With a financial commitment of $400 million to AT&T Aspire since 2008, AT&T is driving innovation in education to help all students make their biggest dreams a reality.
“Education is the best investment we can make to ensure new hires start day one with the skills they need,” said AT&T Indiana President Bill Soards. “Through AT&T Aspire, we are promoting student success in school and beyond. It’s one more way we are using the power of our network to build a better tomorrow.”
